Nanotechnology, Nanoscale Science and Art
Spector, Tami I
Vol. 41, Num. 4
In this introduction to Leonardos special section on nanotechnology, Spector begins by describing nanotechnology as an umbrella term more than a scientific discipline, one in which most of the field of chemistry would readily fit. She then goes on to ask some hackneyed questions about the aims and ethics of nanotechnology before coming to her real intent, the impact (or lack thereof) of nanotechnology on art. Her brief summaries of the three articles that follow hers give added breadth to the expansive definition of nanotechnology, as she brings together the authors use of macro, micro and audio techniques to utilize the nanoscale in artwork, a place it has rarely seen.
