European Regulatory Issues in Nanomedicine
Vol. 2, Num. 1
This paper looks to understand the particular ethical concerns of nanomedicine and determine whether the current ethical frameworks for medicine would suffice to govern nanomedical research or whether a new model must be created in order to address the unique challenges of nanotechnology. One of the biggest issues nanoscientists face comes from the lack of public trust, not just in the science itself but in their expertise in such a new field. The practice of involving the public in the decision-making process as nanomedicine is developed, however, would encourage a proactive attitude towards an opportune regulatory approach, which would only serve to better focus the field on issues that could gain easy public support.
