It's Not Just About Nanotoxicology
Vol. 4, Num. 10
Jones argues here that, as important as the issues of nanotoxicology and nanoecotoxicology are to the fields future, there are many other issues that demand notice but are overshadowed by these flashier concerns. The report published in 2004 by the Royal Society and the Royal Academy of Engineering had much to do with this, as well as a focus on upstream public engagement that has since become a rallying cry for risk assessment in nanotechnology. If anything, the greatest success of this report is that it has brought the need for study and public awareness of risks to the stage before research happens, and that model is now being followed in other emerging fields, as well.
